Story

arya 2 Arya is an orphan and Ajay is his friend in an orphanage. A rich couple visit that orphanage and wanted to adapt one of these two guys. Arya and Ajay use a toss to decide their fortunes. Arya wins, but lets Ajay go as he thinks that friendship is all about giving. Ajay grows up as a rich man and Arya grows up as a poor guy. Ajay starts a software company and Arya joins him as an employee. Geeta is the new employee of the company. Both Ajay and Arya fall in love with her. The rest of the story is all about how these two guys try to make Geeta fall for them.

Artists Performance

Arya 2 Allu Arjun: Allu Arjun is perfect as Arya. His character in the movie has the qualities of a psychotic and he portrayed the character flawlessly. He shined in emotional scenes in the second half of the movie. Allu Arjun is probably the best dancer of current era in Tollywood. That is the reason why he made hugely difficult dances appear fluid and effortless in the first four songs of the movie.

arya 2Others: Kajal Agarwal is good as a girl who is not committed to any guy at heart. She rendered the image of a typical confused girl about love. Navadeep is nice as a guy with selfish and practical thinking. He is extremely good with histrionics when he delivers dialogues to Allu Arjun at hospital in the climax scene. Shraddha Das is gorgeous in a brief role. Ajay is excellent as Subba Reddy, mainly due to entertaining characterization. Brahmanandam is partly entertaining. Mukesh Rushi is adequate. An actor with better command on Rayalaseema dialect would have done justice to Sayaji Shinde’s role.

Technical departments

Arya 2Story - screenplay - direction: Story of the movie is about the conflict of love (Geeta) and friendship (Ajay) of a confused guy (Arya) with psychotic tendencies caused due to loneliness in life. Making a movie based on such a characterization is a highly risky proposition and director Sukumar partly succeeds in it. Sukumar is basically an intelligent guy with a flair for parallel thinking. His intelligence and creativity is shown in conceiving certain scenes of the movie like

1. Using a bubble gum to decide who is going to be hero’s best friend (just like throwing stone into empty cup in Arya)
2. Hero wearing glasses to see the heroine clearly in his dreaming because heroine appears blurred. (montage shot of 2nd song)
3. Love letter episode
4. The drinking scene between Arya and Subba Reddy
5. With one dialogue (Aayanaku champentha kopam vunte, naaku chachipoyentha prema vundi), the love angle of entire movie is justified.

Sukumar is also extremely good at penning screenplay for some part of the movie. The best example is the way he distributes three characters in a stand-off of second half (like puli, meka, gaddi story we listen when we were kids).

arya 2However, there is a major glitch in Arya 2 compared to Arya movie. In Arya movie, hero is shown as a guy with mischief and he sincerely fights for a girl because he loves her. When he wants to chase a girl with sincerity, audience would love it and follow the hero character with empathy. Hence there is emotional involvement for hero’s character from audiences. In Arya 2, hero would be sincerely chasing the girl to take her and give it to his friend. Hence, there in less involvement from audiences point of view. So, there will not be sympathy for hero when he loses girl and there will not be feeling of triumph (from audiences involvement angle) when hero finally gets the girl. Another major obstacle in the movie is the factor of confusion. The character of hero vacillates between the feelings of selfishness and sacrifice throughout the movie. The director cleared the confusion only towards the climax.

Arya 2Other departments: Songs of Arya 2 are excellent to listen and I was a bit hesitant about director doing justice to the songs on the screen. Sukumar comes up with a fabulous job of canning all the songs with energy and verve. Background music is also good. Cinematography by Rajasekhar is of top class. Credit for lush visuals should also be given to Prime Focus (DI) and Pixelloid (VFX). Dialogues are well written. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh is good. Production standards by Aditya Arts banner (Aditya Babu and Bhogavally Prasad) are of top-notch.

arya 2Analysis: First half is is not gripping due to lack of conflict point. Around 45 minutes of the movie in first half where Arya tries to make Geeta fall for him appears redundant. Second half is better than the first half. The last 15 minutes is clear as the director reveals the real character of Arya, thus relieving us of confusion. The plus points of the movie are creative scenes, Allu Arjun, songs (dances) and technical values. On the flipside, psychotic orientation and confusion in hero’s characterization doesn’t get audiences involved in the movie intently. The runtime of the movie is also high. On a whole, Arya 2 is a different film that can appeal to A centers and class crowds.

De Dana Dan Movie Review| De Dana Dan Hindi Movie Review| De Dana Dan Review

Rating: - 2/5

Akshay Kumar’s much hyped De Dana Dhan released worldwide today and the expectations quite obviously are high. For one the film reunites the Hera Pheri team of Akshay Kumar - Paresh Rawal - Suniel Shetty and director Priyadarshan. Over the years, Priyadarshan films that I have loved in particular have been Hera Pheri, Hungama and to a certain extent Hulchul. De Dana Dhan promises more - 25 character actors along with a thrilling water-flood scene as its climax.

Story is something, we cannot expect from Priyan films. But is it entertaining enough to deserve the price of your tickets? Read on..

Nithin (Akshay Kumar) works for a rich mall-owner (played by Archana Puran Singh) in Singapore. He is in love with Anjali (Katrina Kaif) and with dreams of quitting his slave-job and marrying the love of his life, he is always on a look out for a shortcut to richness. With help from his friend Ram (Suniel Shetty), the two hatch a plan to kidnap his owner’s Dog! What follows is utter chaos filled with innumerable misunderstandings and confusions.

De Dana Dhan Review

The negatives first, for a change

  • The fact that Paresh Rawal and some of the other character actors have more screen-time than Akshay Kumar is simply unacceptable. Most parts of the second half Akki is locked in the wardrobe, which would be terribly disappointing for Akki fans and the roar when he is finally released, proves just that.
  • Katrina Kaif has nothing to do. No role, few dialogues and the sizzling Gale Lag Ja dance number has been kept away as a bonus by director Priyadarshan for the post-weekend shows. Again, unacceptable.
  • For a movie hyped as the return of the Hera Pheri team - Paresh Rawal has absolutely no interaction with neither Suniel Shetty nor Akshay Kumar. Unacceptable, disappointing and with a hint of exaggeration cruel!
  • The runtime is close to 3 hours and the director has wasted loads of time in introduction all the 20 odd characters. With each having multiple misunderstandings with two of the other characters, the movies gets too monotonous in the second half.
  • While you expect non-stop entertainment, the funny scenes are few and far in between. The whole marriage angle in the second half and the addition of several new characters, ruins what should have been a thoroughly entertaining ride had the director just stuck to the Akshay - Suniel storyline.
  • The dialogues are strictly average. Some of them work, most don’t.
  • The climax which refreshes memories of the Tsumani hit resorts, look realistic. But what’s the whole point of the scene, to make you laugh? Sorry it didn’t.
  • What’s with the abrupt end? None of misunderstandings were cleared. Are we expecting too much here? Wasn’t it Akshay who claimed ‘Take your brains to theaters’ — After watching the film, would love to know exactly why.. ?

Its disappointing, disturbing and not one bit funny anymore! Its hard to see an actor, you have grown to love over the years, as a part of such flicks.

Positives

  • About two scenes involving Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in the first half are funny.
  • When Akshay is released from the cupboard. The scene that follows is hilarious.
  • Those inhaling of chloroform scenes were funny too and performed well by all the actors involved.
  • Katrina looks stunning and so does Neha Dhupia, whose deserves credit for putting up the best show amongst the females.
  • Johnny Lever is fantastic.

Other performances

  • Archana Puran Singh - Too Loud and over the top.
  • Paresh Rawal has the meatiest role. He excels in certain scenes, but average in others.
  • Suniel Shetty doesn’t have much to do in the second half, but does well in the first.
  • Asrani as Mamu is good.
  • Sameera Reddy is purely for eye candy.
  • Rajpal Yadav is very good.
  • Manoj Joshi is loud but effective.
  • Chunky Pandey is okay.
  • Aditi Govitrikar currently locked in the Bigg Boss house looks gorgeous.
  • Shakti Kapoor was irritating.

Overall, De Dana Dhan isn’t close to as good as Priyadarshan’s ‘H Series’ (read Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul) of classics. While this review wouldn’t make much of a difference to die hard Akshay fans, it is they who will be most disappointed.

Jail Hindi Movie Review| Jail Review| Jail Cinema Review

Rating: - 3.5/5

Madhur Bhandarkar movies are always known to be hard-hitting and agonizingly real. Jail is no different, it is a typical Bhandarkar film and deals with life inside a Jail.

Parag Dixit (Neil Nitin Mukesh) lives a life, most would dream of. He’s extremely ambitious, has a great job, a steady relationship with girlfriend Mansi (Mugdha Godse) but life takes a ugly turn when a casual drive back home with his room mate, finds him behinds bars filed for possession of Narcotics. No fault of his, just at the wrong place at the wrong time. From a luxurious lifestyle to being exposed to the brutality of a Jail and its authorities, Parag fights a loosing battle against the system. His only support is Nawab (Manoj Bajpai), his jail inmate who believe that Parag is innocent.

Parag’s emotional journey through hope and despair forms the rest of this intriguing tale.

Jail Review

Why Jail is a must-watch

  • What works for Jail is Bhandarkar’s rather unbiased take on the system. He has cleverly avoided cinematic clichés seen in most jail related scenes like third degree torture, homosexuality (although one scene does indicate oral sex) and instead emphasized more on the emotions of his lead character.
  • The jail environment is realistically captured which manages to frighten the hell of you. You can’t help but wonder, what if Parag were you? Nothing can be more depressing, more painful than watching an innocent, trapped in a Jail for no fault of his. With Parag being one such, you connect deeply with his character.
  • Neil Nitin Mukesh delivers an award deserving performance in Jail. With limited dialogues and plenty of expressions, Neil gets into the skin of his character and conveys plenty through silence.
  • Majoy Bajpai is fantastic. This highly talented actor deserves more roles, he’s been missing for a while now.
  • Mugdha Godse does well in a short role.

Bhandarkar makes you think

  • Does an individual, with a clean past, actually deserve Jail hell until proven guilty by the court? Especially when the very environment can turn an innocent into a criminal.
  • Do they deserve the excessive mental and physical torture?
  • Will there ever be a solution to our dreadfully slow Judicial system?
  • How many Parag’s are still trapped in those various filthy jails in our country?
  • What about the convicts family, especially when he was the sole bread earner?
  • Jail also makes you value the smaller things in life and more importantly value freedom! Freedom to live your life the way you want to.

Jail - not without flaws

  • The writing of the court scenes are poor, infact Parag’s first lawyer is funny with his dialogues. Was it intentional? We hope not.
  • The movie isn’t for the faint-hearted. The excessive rejections of bail, although real, gets quite depressing.
  • Music is poor. Songs and item numbers, while good for the front benchers in single screens, were unnecessary.

Bhandarkar takes you into a world that you would never wish to be a part of. But a couple of hours to experience Parag’s journey, the journey of someone who represents the innocent is well worth it.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Movie Review| Ranbir Kapoor Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Review

Rating: - 3/5

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, two of the most good-looking actors in Bollywood come together in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Santoshi in an interview promised a Laurel-Hardy kinda comedy, something that would appeal to the masses and classes, a movie that would be universally accepted, much like his cult classic Andaaz Apna Apna which released over a decade ago. Can Santoshi who has hard-hitting critically acclaimed films to his credit, recreate the AAA magic?

The movie is about Prem (Ranbir Kapoor) and Jennifer (Katrina Kaif). Prem is the president of ‘Happy Club’ which has a few simple rules - be happy, make others happy, unite couples - but its these very rules that test Prem when he eventually falls head over heels in love with Jennifer.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Review

Here’s what we liked about Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

  • If there is one reason why Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani is worth a watch, it has to be the brilliance of Ranbir Kappor. Surrounded by mediocrity and unnecessary madness, Ranbir stands tall in yet another fabulous performance. Undoubtedly, the future ’superstar’ of Bollywood!
  • Some well written scenes (mentioned below) make the movie, a good one time watch.
  • Katrina Kaif adds immense value to the movie, purely by her screen presence and stunning looks. Its hard to take your eyes off her, due to which you manage to sit through those 2 - 3 song and dance numbers in the second half.
  • Supporting characters do well.
  • The chemistry between Katrina and Ranbir was excellent.
  • Tere Hone Laga Hoon was by far the best soundtrack in the movie.

Sequences that deserve a mention

  • When Katrina invites Ranbir to be her dance partner and the sequences that follow with her chosen-by-parents groom are hilarious. Slightly over the top, with Ranbir dancing all the way through with weird expressions, but funny nonetheless.
  • When the jobless Ranbir takes up a job in a sweets shop to impress Katrina.
  • Those broken English dialogue scenes were nice, again credit to Ranbir’s fantastic dialogue delivery.
  • When Ranbir’s mother, in an effort to stop his father from entering the bathroom, flirts with her husband.
  • Govind Namdeo’s introductory scene which includes that funny ringtone of his assistant.
  • Last but not the least, when Salman Khan (as himself) makes a dashing special appearance. The girlfriend - yours or mine talk - is sure to bring the house down.

Why we don’t recommend a trip to theaters.

  • What starts off as a light-hearted romantic movie, turns ugly in the second half with slapstick - Priyadashan style comedy.
  • The romance between Ranbir and Katrina almost works, but the addition of 2 unnecessary characters into Katrina’s life somewhat ruins it.
  • Like most madcap comedies in the recent past, Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani lacks a coherent storyline.
  • Upen Patel is a non-actor, even in those 10 odd minutes of screen time, he irritates.
  • Ideally Ajab Premki should have been a good 30 mins shorter. Blame those songs, all of which are badly placed.

Overall, Ajab Prem KI Ghazab Kahani belongs to Ranbir Kapoor and to a certain extent Katrina Kaif. The first half is good but its those post-interval portions that prove to be a major let down. Wait for the DVD.

Village Lo Vinayakudu Movie Review| Village Lo Vinayakudu Review

Film: Village Lo Vinayakudu

Story: Mahi
Dialogues: Mahi, Saikiran Adivi

The film ‘Vinayakudu’ was a major success and this has led to the sequel of the film ‘Village Lo Vinayakudu’. The expectations are obviously high on this one and whether they have been met or not, let us see.

Story:
Set on the backdrop of a village, the story is about Karthik (Krishnudu) a teacher in Hyderabad and it is love at first sight for him when he sees Kavya (Saranya) a doctor. She lives with her father Colonel Laxmipathi (Rao Ramesh), an ex-serviceman at their village and one day Karthik lands at their door confessing his love and asking for Kavya’s hand. Her father strictly retaliates and from then on, Karthik begins his efforts to win the hearts of Kavya’s father and her family. Meanwhile Col Laxmipathi’s friend (Yandamoori Veerendranath) makes attempts to separate Karthik from Kavya. Is he successful or not forms the rest.

Performances:
Krishnudu
Yet again, he has come up with a good performance and not many challenges for him in this one. He has done his best in carrying the film on his shoulders throughout and did a fairly good job. His body language and few dialogues bring smiles and make him look much cuter and perfect.

Saranya Mohan
She is looking sweet and her performance is also good. She has got wonderful photogenic features and for the role she suited best. She certainly loots many hearts with her cute expressions and naughty smiles.

Rao Ramesh
He has done justice to the role and has come up with some highlight dialogues and catchy scenes. This is a different character he has done unlike his earlier movies and he makes his presence felt. He is trying to imitate Prakash Raj knowingly or unknowingly in some scenes and that should be avoided.

Yendamuri Veerendranath
He has given few stiff expressions in front of the camera. But his character is interesting although little.

Bharat Reddy
Though he had a brief presence, he gave his best shot and there are few places where he made his presence felt very well.

Highlights:
Title design
Music and Lyrics
Bongulo Chicken Episode
Heroine Saranya
Cinematography
Krishnudu
Locations
Subtle Humor

Disappointments:
Pace in screenplay could be better

Analysis:
This is the sincere attempt by the director, and he scores good encomiums from all sectors of audiences. He has knitted the movie with all dexterities that a hero should possess. It is an eye opener for many directors those are showing heroes as smugglers, professional killers, thieves and robbers. The film condemns ‘ridiculing mythology’ which should be underlined. That’s a good lesson.

It is the effort that really appeals as it is made with honesty and sincerity. The film is a clean flick and it has enough ingredients to appeal to the family audience but then it doesn’t have that sort of momentum and pace.

There are no idle moments due to its good presentation. Background score was ok, songs were worth, picturization was top notch. While the first half is quite mild, it is not until the second half that the real tempo begins. Overall, the film is good in parts but could have been better. So it can be appreciated for its efforts than anything else.
