Aladin Movie Review| Aladin Hindi Movie Review

Rating: - 2.5\5

We all know the story of the classic Disney character, don’t we? Aladin, the magic lamp and those 3 wishes. In a conscious effort to make it different from the original animated film, Sujoy Ghosh the director of our very own version of Aladin, has changed the storyline. Here Aladin (Ritesh Deshmukh) hates his name, hates lamps and doesn’t make any wishes i.e until he falls in love, typical Bollywood style, with Jasmine (Jacqueline Fernandez). Genie is now Genius (Amitabh Bachchan) and we also have a vicious villian - The Ringmaster (Sanjay Dutt).

Produced on a huge scale with talented actors and a good director at the helm, we expect a fantasy thriller from Bollywood that not just tries to match Hollywood standards in Visuals but also in content. Does it? Read on

Aladin Review

Some positives

  1. The visuals are good. Not the best we have seen from Bollywood, but one amongst the best.
  2. Amitabh Bachchan is slightly over the top in the first half, but at this age, to have done everything that he has done in Aladin, requires a lot of energy and passion.
  3. Ritesh Deshmukh - Whether its the role of the under-dog Aaloo, or while romancing the ravishing Jacqueline.. Ritesh in a lead role as Aladin is fantastic.
  4. Jacqueline Fernandez looks stunning, throughout apart from the introductory scene. The girl from Sri Lanka has enough potential and screen presence to be the next big thing after Katrina Kaif.
  5. Kids would enjoy some parts of the film.

Negatives

  1. The director seems confused. Neither does the movie have enough to appeal to the kids, nor is it gripping enough for the adults. While a combination of romance, thrill and fantasy in an underdog tale - in short, masala - is too hard to resist for a Bollywood director, its the faulty execution of the already flawed script.. that makes it such a disappointing experience.
  2. Too many songs - 3 in the first half alone. Do we still need 5 - 6 songs in each film? What a waste of time and money!
  3. The second half including the climax is yet another perfect case of the writers taking the viewers for granted. Sequences like Sanjay Dutt in disguise revealing the secret behind the death of Aladin’s parents, followed by Ritesh confronting Bachchan to the climax when Bachchan looses his power only to eventually get it back.. isn’t convincing and frankly, quite stupid.
  4. The movie gets too predictable too soon, and just when you gear up for the last action filled battle, the director disappoints you with a tame ending. Wish the money and runtime wasted on songs, would instead have been invested on more action.
  5. Sanjay Dutt is wasted.

Overall, Aladin disappoints big time, if you must watch it for the VFX and good performances. We recommend you skip this and if Hollywood isn’t your cup of tea, watch Koi Mil Gaya and Mr India instead.

London Dreams Movie Review| London Dreams Hindi Movie Review

Rating: - 3.5\5
Cast: - Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Asin
Director: - Vipul Shah
Music: - Shankar Ehsaan Loy

The highly anticipated musical London Dreams finally hit screens today. Directed by Vipul Shah of Namestey London fame, this rock band saga stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin Thottumkal in the lead. Salman and Ajay come together nearly a decade after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

London Dreams draws inspiration from the legendary Mozart-Salieri rivalry and revolves around the theme of friendship, trust, passion, jealousy and sacrifice against the backdrop of music.

London Dreams revolves around two childhood friends - Arjun (Ajay Devgan) and Mannu (Salman Khan), who over the years become thick friends. Arjun is extremely passionate about music and his dream is to make it big and sing at the London’s Wembley Stadium with thousands of fans cheering for him. On the other hand, Mannu is lighthearted and capricious and does not realize his innate musical talent. Despite all the hurdles, Arjun’s dream slowly takes shape and he manages to form a band called London Dreams. Just when his fame starts spreading wider and across the borders, things take a new twist and Mannu begins to steal the show. Slowly jealousy creeps into Arjun’s path to victory and his strong faithful friendship takes an ugly shape. Who wins the musical battle to fame and success? Who does London Dreams belong too? This forms the rest of the story

London Dreams Review

Why London Dreams is a much watch in theater

  1. London Dreams is one of Vipul Shah’s best works. From the gigantic concerts to romance to the conspiracy, everything has extremely well executed. The script ideally should have been crisper, especially the climax.
  2. With well-etched characters, Vipul has also managed to extract brilliant performances from both actors. Think ‘Wanted’ was Salman’s best? wait till you watch this. He emotes like never before, effortlessly delivering one of his best performances to date. You easily relate and feel deeply for his character. This performance could well win him some awards this year.
  3. No other actor in Bollywood can be as intense as Ajay Devgan and he fits into Arjun’s skin with dexterity and precision. Although Ajay’s role takes a gray shade, his competency is unmatched and takes grounds equal as Salman Khan in making a place for himself in the minds of the audience. While he doesn’t really look like a rockstar, its his acting histrionics that does the trick.. although he should have worked harder on his dancing skills.
  4. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan share amazing chemistry. Be it their confrontation at Ajay’s home or at the stadium or their happy times of friendship, their off screen comfort-level is clearly visible on screen.
  5. Salman Khan’s first flight to London is absolutely hilarious. His dialogues are funny and so are his expressions. Must watch!
  6. Asin looked very pretty and danced well, but in a movie dominated by Salman and Ajay Devgan, she doesn’t really get enough scope to exhibit her acting talent. Chennai Express is a cute name!
  7. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is in fine tune with the tone of the movie and fits perfectly into the film. The gigantic concerts are shot amazingly well.

What’s not-so-good in London Dreams

  1. A few scenes do appear over the top and not so very convincing. Like Ajay giving away the most important moment of his life and confronting his friend in front of thousands. Also the on-stage dialogues were weak and lacked intensity.
  2. A little more drama, more rivalry would have made the movie an even better watch, perhaps more realistic. Forgiveness is allowed in friendship, but being too humble without even a pinch of anger is unacceptable, its too far fetched.

Overall, London Dreams is one of the best films of the year. The stretched climax is a bit of a disappointment but the fantastic performances by both Ajay and Salman more than makes up for it.

Ek Niranjan Review| Ek Niranjan Movie Review| Ek Niranjan Cinema Review

Film: Ek Niranjan
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner:
Adithya Ram Movies
Cast: Prabhas, Kangana Ranaut, Sonu Sood, Tanikella, Makrand Deshpande, Mukul Dev, Posani, Ali, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Abhinayasri, Sunil, Venu Madhav etc
Music: Mani Sharma
Cinematography: Shyam K Naidu
Editing: M R Varma
Fights: Stun Siva
Story, dialogues, screenplay, director: Puri Jagannadh
Producer: Adithya Ram
Release date: 29/10/2009

The Puri- Prabhas team has come up once again after ‘Bujjigadu’ and this is a litmus test for both since they have not been able to score success lately. How good is ‘Ek Niranjan’? Let us see..

Story:
Chotu (Prabhas) is an orphan who makes an earning by catching hold of criminals and taking commission from the police. He is also in search of his parents and keeps pampering Chidambaram (makrand) his guardian to reveal the truth since he kidnaps Chotu when he is a baby. Things change when Sameera (kangana), a music teacher enters into his life and along with her also come Johnny Bhai (sonu), Kailash (mukul) and others. What is the link between all? Does Chotu get to meet his family in the end? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Prabhas:

Yet another energetic performance from him but he needs to change his dialogue delivery which has become repetitive and sometime rolling. The idea of getting closer to the masses is a good thought but this doesn’t work always. He can recollect his diction for ‘Chatrapathi’ which had more punch and impact.

Kangana
Though not very pretty, she has got an innocent sex appeal making her attractive. She looks just average and did justice to her character given her debut in Telugu.

Sonu Sood
Interesting and entertaining performance, his sequences with Brahmaji are a highlight. He seems to be filling the gap of Raghuvaran in a large way with his body language and voice.

Brahmanandam, Ali, Abhinayasri
The trio has come up with a comedy track but that has not been able to impress. Both Brahmi and Ali look stereotype. Abhinayasri looks shapely and looks seductive in few scenes.

Mukul Dev, Makrand Deshpande
These Bollywood imports were not required as their characters didn’t have much to offer. Not really sure why they had to be roped in. Makrand is a highly talented actor but his caliber was not used properly.

Others like Posani, Venu Madhav, Sunil did their bit as required but not very appealing.

Tanikella Bharani and Sangeetha are ok.

Technically, the highlight in the movie is music. All departments functioned well and the production values are also impressive. The director seems to have not kept full energies in some areas of script. Hence the drop down in entertainment graph here are there.

Highlights:
Prabhas
Sonu Sood
Puri’s Dialogues
‘Amma Ledu…’ Lyrics
Music

Disappointments:
Ali-Brahmanandam comedy track
Choice of heroine
Screenplay

Analysis:
The movie promises good entertainment in the take off but the graph suffers in the flow. The problem in the movie is with the lack of comedy carried by comedy artistes. The actual comedy was worked well with Prabhas and Sonu Sood. And it is obvious that the choice of heroine has reduced the scope of attracting family audience to theatres. It’s bluntly limited to mass audiences and as there is no potential for the movie to allure repeat-viewers, the purpose wouldn’t work completely.

First half of the movie is entertaining but the second half is disturbing to some extent. The graph has fallen down when the narration goes to Bangkok. Puri seems to be so obsessed with Bangkok in his films and hardly understands the need to roll cameras there every time. The climax gets mixed response- some feel that it’s subtle to end the movie that way but others may feel it’s incomplete.

On a whole, it’s a movie that hasn’t reached expectations although entertained to some extent.

Bottom Line: While audiences expected a full meal from Puri, he served only plate meal.

Jayeebhava Movie Review| Jayeebhava telugu movie review| Jayeebhava cinema Review

Film: Jayeebhava
Rating: 2.75/5

Banner: N T R Arts
Cast: Nandamuri Kalyanram, Hansika, Mukesh Rishi, Jayaprakash Reddy, Ashish Vidyarthi, Chalapathi Rao, Ali, Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav, Raghu Babu, Hema, Banerjee etc
Music: S Thaman
Fights: Vijay
Editing: Gowtham Raju
Dialogues, story: B V S N Ravi
Cinematography: Dasaradhi Sivendra
Director: Naren Kondapati
Producer: Nandamuri Kalyanram
Release date: 23rd Oct 2009

Nandamuri Kalyanram has come up with his third venture from his home banner and the expectations were high since the pre release talk was quite positive. Whether it matches to the reality or not, let us see.

Story:
Bhavani (Mukesh Rishi) and Narasimha (Jayaprakash) are best friends turned foes due to misunderstandings caused by Yadu (Ashish). This is told to Ram (Kalyan), son of Bhavani and he decides to play game with Yadu. He is successful in that but in due course falls in love with Anjali (Hansika). However, a sequence of events takes place and Ram realizes that Anjali is the daughter of Narasimha. Now, he has to ensure that both sworn enemies come together to accept for his marriage with Anjali. Whether he is successful or not forms the rest of the story.

Performances:
Kalyanram

He has given a standard performance and there is nothing new or variety that he offered. Given the comedy quotient, he should have been more charging and expressive. His naturally handsome looks are nice. Costumes are also good.

Hansika motwani
She has turned out to be a real gorgeous doll after her last movie ‘Kantri’. She looks sexy and wears some really attractive outfits and this would provide a visual delight. Performance is as usual but her beauty overshadows most of her drawbacks.

Mukesh Rishi, Jayaprakash Reddy- both senior actors came up with a standard performance but the makers could have looked at extracting more from Mukesh. Jayaprakash Reddy gives the required dose of humor, performance and the bad looks. Both of them are versatile.

Brahmanandam, Ali, Raghu Babu- the trio has come up with decent performances but the energy could have been better in the line. Raghu Babu in particular is good and he does these roles very well.

Highlights
Hansika

Disappointments
Weak romance track
Inconsistency in climax

Analysis:
The film relies mostly on the technical aspects and the focus has been on the style and presentation than the content and punch in the story. While the first half is just okay, the real story picks up in second half and there are traces of movies like ‘Dhee’ ‘Ready’ etc and protagonist using brain than brawn has become the in thing now. The mass audience would relish the presence of Hansika, songs and the comedy part but overall, there is no rhythm and there are fluctuations in the depiction of emotions. The film is good in parts but on a whole there should be something more. The movie is on the lines of ‘Ready’ but could have handled with more power in dialogues and screenplay.

Bottom line: Just okay, could have been better

All The Best Hindi Movie Review| All The Best Movie Review

    Rating: - 3.5/5

Sometimes, we laugh at movies. At times, we laugh in movies. Thankfully, ALL THE BEST, helmed by Rohit Shetty, belongs to the latter type.

ALL THE BEST makes no claims of catering to the intelligentsia or the elite. Instead, it's aimed at those who want to spend two hours of their precious life flexing their facial muscles. ALL THE BEST is for those who expect fun and laughter unlimited in those two hours. This one makes you smile, laugh, even break into a guffaw at times.

The jokes and the goings-on may appear silly, but who cares! As long as one feels positive and wears a smile on the face even after the show has ended, nothing else matters.

Comedy is serious business and Rohit Shetty is a pro at this genre now. This time, the talented director seeks inspiration from RIGHT BED, WRONG HUSBAND and what works to the advantage are two factors - the written material and the right casting. Both are just right!

From time to time, it has been noticed that some films are made with the motive of keeping you entertained. ALL THE BEST is one of those films. Go, have a blast this Diwali!

Veer [Fardeen Khan], a singer by profession, is greedy of extracting extra pocket money from his brother Dharam [Sanjay Dutt], a business-honcho. Veer lies to Dharam that he has got married and his friend Prem [Ajay Devgn], a concept car expert, lends a helping hand in cooking up this alibi.

Veer is in love with Vidya [Mugdha Godse], but has qualified in the hate list of her father. Prem is happily married to Jhanvi [Bipasha Basu], who takes care of his ancestor's outdated gymnasium. Veer and Prem land up in debts as they had opted for a short-cut to earn easy money.

The two get into a bigger soup when Dharam pays a sudden visit to their place. Time does not give a chance and unavoidable circumstances arouse such situations that Prem's wife Jhanvi is mistaken for Veer's and Veer's girlfriend for Prem's.

Like his previous films, director Rohit Shetty rests the story on multiple characters, with a dozen odd actors in supporting roles. With so many characters in the film, it generally tends to get confusing, but ALL THE BEST has an easy-to-comprehend story and a trouble-free and uncomplicated screenplay [Robin Bhatt and Yunus Sajawal].

Ten minutes into the film and you know that ALL THE BEST is all about mistaken identities. But the proceedings actually take off when Sanju enters the scene. That's when you get drawn into this madcap world completely.

A number of sequences are howlarious. Note Johny Lever's intro. Ditto for Sanjay Mishra's track. Also, when Johny Lever regains his voice - towards the climax - it's sooooo funny. On the flip side, the pace drops in the middle of the second hour. Also Pritam's musical score is uninspiring and the songs act as speed breakers.

Rohit Shetty is in top form and his team of writers, Robin and Yunus, contribute enormously in making this film watchable. Dudley's cinematography is perfect. Farhad - Sajid and Bunty Rathore's dialogue are very much in sync with the mood of the film. In fact, a few one-liners are extremely witty.

Sanju portrays his part well. His sequences with Ajay are truly fantastic. But the show-stopper is undoubtedly Ajay, whose comic timing is only getting better. He plays to the gallery completely and delivers a sparkling performance. Fardeen needs to loosen up, though he makes a sincere attempt. Bipasha is sweet, while Mugdha doesn't get much scope. Amongst supporting actors, Johny Lever and Sanjay Mishra are in terrific form. Mukesh Tiwari, Vijay Patkar, Ashwini Kalsekar and Atul Parchure lend credible report.

On the whole, ALL THE BEST is fun and laughter unlimited. At the box-office, the festive period coupled with the solid track record of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty and also the strong merits will ensure ample footfalls at cineplexes, making its investors laugh all the way to the bank. Main Aur Mrs Khanna Movie Review| Main Aur Mrs Khanna Hindi Movie Review

    Rating: - 3/5

Main Aur Mrs Khanna evoles around three characters - Mr Samir Khanna (Salman Khan), Mrs Raina Khanna (Kareena Kapoor) and Mr Akash (Sohail Khan). Well, it happens so that Mr and Mrs Khanna’s wedlock is more or less like a fairytale. Eventually their happy marriage begins to fade with Samir’s career down the drains. One decision makes them go their separate ways. Enters Akash, a support to the trembling lady. So finally who wins the love of Mrs Khanna - Samir or Akash?

    Main Aur Mrs Khanna Review

What works for Main Aur Mrs Khanna:

    • The story is simple and subtle. Prem Soni has avoided excessive melodrama and kept it short and neat.
    • Dialogues are wonderful. Music by Sajid Wajid is excellent. From the melody to the item number, all songs are pleasing. Also special mention for the stunning locales the movie has been shot in.
    • Sohail Khan is a good addition, for only he manages to raise a few laughs. Preity Zinta’s item number was nice, she manages to look great and also reminds you of Ash in Kajra Re.
    • Kareena Kapoor is fantastic throughout, in form after a poor outing with her over-the-top performance in Kambakht Ishq.
    • Salman Khan is good, but seems disinterested in certain scenes.
    • Plenty of special appearance apart from Preity’s. Deepika Padukone is good, Dino Morea has nothing much to do. Bappi Lahiri too has a role to play.

Why you should avoid Main Aur Mrs Khanna:

    • As mentioned above, the story is simple but it fails to be convincing, infact the relationship of Mr and Mrs Khanna has been handled rather immaturely. Also the movie lacks those moments of on-screen magic, which is a key for romantic tales. You hardly ever feel for any of the characters and while the director has avoided exaggerated emotional sequences, he has scarified a lot on drama.
    • From love to marriage, from marital bliss to break-up and eventually love once again - the director seemed to be in a rush. The script is very inconsistent, many sequences feel detached from each other and most often you are left with many unanswered questions.
    • Although it is said to be a contemporary love story, except for the settings the movie scores a zero on freshness (storyline and direction), and is predictable throughout.
    • Deepika Padukone’s special appearance looses its charm especially because she carries the same name as our earlier Mrs Khanna and apparently so does her ex-boyfriend.

Overall, Main Aur Mrs Khanna is old stake served in a fancy dish. It has nothing new to offer and the lack of emotional connect makes it disappointing watch. At the box office, don’t expect much.

    Blue Review

    Rating: - 2.75/5

    3 reasons to watch Blue

    • Underwater visuals : Sequences filmed underwater are a pure visual treat, something never witnessed in Bollywood before. Credit : Peter Zuccarini (Pirates of the Caribbean)
    • Fabulous Action : About 4 Bike sequences provide the necessary adrenaline rush, the sequence on the train is the best of the lot.
    • Lara Dutta : Not in the history of Bollywood has an actress managed to look so stunning in a Bikini. Lara Dutta, for two thirds of her role, is clad looking super-hot in a variety of two-piece bikini’s.

Several reasons why Blue should be avoided!

    • Where’s the script? Like every other Akshay Kumar movie, Blue has a utterly stupid plot and completely lacks substance. Watching Blue is like flipping between Discovery (or National Geographic) and MTV on television. Just that the later would be much more informative, interesting and entertaining.
    • The director takes his own sweet time to get the point, the treasure hunt begins 20 mins into the second half and ends before you could blink an eye lid! The whole build up and the fall-out after the discovery of the treasure is a joke!
    • Dialogues are unintentionally funny.
    • Music by A.R Rahman surprisingly isn’t up to his usual high standards.
    • Background score is weak.
    • In a poorly sketched character, Akshay Kumar sleep walks through his role.
    • Sanjay Dutt looks tired and old.
    • Zayed Khan looks good, but makes no impact.
    • Katrina Kaif looks stunning, all good until she gets to mouth dialogues.

    What’s laugh-worthy (Possible Spoilers)

    • The first half is wasted establishing the characters and to set-up the hunt for the treasure. Now getting to the treasure is one hellava risky task, something many have tried and lost their lives. Only the pot-bellied Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) looking horribly unfit can get there. But the ease with which the characters get the lost chest, surrounded by sharks, you wonder why no one could ever get to it in 50 odd years!
    • The 50 year old Sanjay Dutt romancing the stunning Lara Dutta was unintentionally funny. Seriously, the role demanded a much younger actor!

Overall, Blue is about 80 - 100 crores of money drowned deep into the Sea. And for the makers, recovering it wouldn’t be close to as easy as shown in the film.

Save money and enjoy Diwali with Family and Friends. At the box office, the opening is expected to be huge, but recovering the bucket loads of money that has gone into the making would prove to be extremely difficult.

Mahatma Movie Review| Mahatma Telugu Movie Review

    Rating: - 3/5

Lyrics: Lakshmi Bhoopal, Suddala Ashokteja & Sitarama Sastry.
    Music: Vijay Anthony.
    Producer: CR Manohar.
    Screenplay & Director: Krishna Vamsi.
    Release Date: October 09, 2009

Mahatma is important to Srikanth because it is his 100th film and director Krishna Vamsi took up the responsibility to give him something different. The intention of the film Mahatma is to remind people about the father of the nation, the awakening of his principles from slumber and finally it ends up showing that Mahatma is a forgone conclusion. No matter what one person's effort is, the country won't change, people don't value and the system is static. It requires more than one person to bring about a change in the nation, in the society that is impossible and that had been possible by the one and only Mahatma.

Krishna Vamsi shows the change that Srikanth or the character Das undergoes from being a street rowdy to an aspiring politician. He shows him giving up non vegetarian, giving up alcohol, speaking the truth, atoning his sins but soon after all those idealistic scenes allows the hero and the heroine to dance with 50 other artistes on a long boat in Kerala. Clearly he has forgotten that the Mahatma also abstained from romance/sex..oops there are no intimate scenes.

Ram Jagan plays the role of a street dramatist, each role that is enlightening. The song 'Indiramma inti peru kaadhu ra Gandhi' is superb. Jayaprakash Reddy's work is also good.

The director's Mahatma has a few similarities to Rakhee. It has a subject that deals with social awareness. It glorifies a man who struggles to become an idealist. While a daughter-in-law is burnt in Rakhee, Srikanth attempts to immolate himself and takes 'ahimsa' too far. He is like Ravi Teja in Khadgam who wants to become a film star. There is Charmme too. There is something new but not really exciting. The lectures by Ram Jagan seems like another rhetoric, probably that might be the attitude of the people like you and me in the society.

Vamsi's fetish for natural beauty doesn't work. Bhavana with no make-up or minimum make-up, sparse hair doesn't gel a bit. May be Charmme would have looked better in her place. The fiery Bhavana who inspires Srikanth to become a Gandhian is shown as being contradictory..scared as a lawyer in the first few scenes. Uttej's act as a Muslim, his get-up is realistic. Ahuti Prasad plays a subtle role of a politician, no heavy emotions this time.

The plus point of the film is that it has a few messages for all those who are willing to take it. "Don't have to respect Gandhi but don't use him for your selfish needs." There is a scene in which a baby touches a knife during a ceremony and the family gloats over it. Some dialogues are striking 'amma ni chooste amma anipinchali nee ammani kaadhu'.

Whatever it is, the film ends up as a mix of message and commercial stuff, dances, fights et al. It is also an eye-opener for politicians who crave for power and want the power to pass over to their family. All in all to ask people to repose faith in Gandhi, Krishna Vamsi the director should first believe in him, his ideals. The last scene is a dampner and the film despite some fantastic work by Srikanth ends up as pseudo attempt to dust Gandhi and pull out the umpteen political flags that are entangled on his stick. An average film.
